Sony X800H Design

The Sony X800H 4K Ultra HD TV is an average-looking television with a plain frame and V-shaped legs. It has pretty thin bezels to let you enjoy more screen real estate. Overall, the TV has a sturdy construction, measures 3 inches thick and comes with a VESA mount point in case you would like to have it wall-mounted.

The X800H model comes in 4 different sizes including 43”, 49”, 55” 65”, 75” and 85 inches so you get the freedom to choose a size fit for your living room. All the sizes come with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 4K Ultra HD panel. The 55” and larger sizes feature direct LED backlight with no local dimming while the two smaller sizes (43-49 Inches) are edge-lit. For incredible color reproduction, the TVs are incorporated with Sony’s standard Triluminos Display & Live Color Technology. Also, it supports HDR10 and HLG high dynamic range content in addition to the Dolby vision.

The TV offers rich connectivity and includes a coax antenna/cable jack, 4 HDMI, a 3.5mm audio input, optical SP/DIF digital audio output, 3.5mm headphone output, 2 USB ports, RS-232C and IR jacks and Ethernet connection. There is also 802.11ac Wifi and Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless connectivity in case required. Sony introduced Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos surround to the 800 series. In addition to that, it offers services like Google Voice assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Airplay2, and HomeKit.

Sony X800H TV: Performance

The Sony X800H offers good performance in some key areas and not so well in others. Starting with the good one, the color reproduction was impressive out of the box while using the TV in custom picture mode. Sony’s TVs usually do a great job with color reproduction and Sony X800H is no exception. The colors are vibrant and feel more life-like and the image quality is crisp with clear detail.

With SDR content, the TV produces enough peak brightness which makes it ideal for a well-lit room while watching your favorite movies and TV Shows. With HDR content, the TV does an average job but for top-notch HDR performance, you may want to consider Sony’s x900H which performs better than x800H.

The TV Handles motion pretty well and you will not notice any motion blur while watching fast-paced content such as a movie or sports events. For gaming, the TV lacks VRR technology but it still offers outstanding input lag performance that measures at 10ms for both 1080p and 4K @ 60Hz refresh rate. This makes the TV a great pick for folks who play video games more often.

Sony X800H comes with an IPS panel so a wide viewing angle makes which means you can view your favorite content from any angle without having trouble with degraded image quality. The feature makes the X800H a perfect choice for a room with seating arrangements at wide-angle from the TV screen, especially for home theaters.

The android smart TV platform offers a smooth-running interface and the Google play store gives you access to a wide range of useful apps with thousands of movies, TV shows, sports and entertainment options to choose from.

When it comes to sound quality, Sony X800H is equipped with Sony’s X-Balanced speakers which produce decent sound quality. The TV plays very loud while maintaining decent sound clarity however, for ultimate sound quality you’d want to invest in a decent Soundbar.

Concluding Remarks

Sony X800H is a mid-range, budget-friendly 4K HDR TV with sturdy design, eye-catching appearance, good image quality, rich connectivity and decent sound quality. The colors are incredibly vibrant and accurate which brings the content to life. For folks looking for a budget smart TV from a trusted brand, Sony X800H is a fine choice.

  • Sturdy design
  • Budget-friendly

Sony X900H Review

The Sony X900H is an incredible 4K TV for any type of content. It comes with a VA panel with an excellent contrast ratio and a full array local dimming feature that makes the blacks even better in the dark. Perfect for bright rooms, the X900H has an amazing reflection handling feature and it gets bright enough to handle glare. With a minimal blur, low input lag the Sony X900H is one of the finest on the market that’d be a great match for your elegant living room.

Design

The Sony X900H 4K TV has a sleek and modern design with simple metal feet that holds the TV stable. The feet can’t be adjusted to any position to suit smaller tables. Thin bezels make sure you get a lot of screen space for your content. Overall the TV looks nice and shiny and should look great in your living room with any décor you’ve got.

The Feet slide into the TV so there will be no need for screws and the setup is very straightforward. It comes in 55”, 65”, 75” and 85” size so you have the choice to pick one according to your preferences and the space you got. Although the TV has a wide footprint but there is plenty of space in front of the soundbar or anything else that you want to keep there for décor. The borders are just 0.35” which is pretty thin and not distracting. At the back, it looks just like most Sony TVs with a horizontal brushed texture.

Compared to most Sony TVs and other premium TVs in the market, it is a little thicker at 2.8”. The inputs are all side facing which makes them easier to access if wall-mounted. Overall it has a great build quality. The metal stand supports the TV well and it doesn’t wobble much. There are few visible screws at the back but they are hardly noticeable so that shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Performance

The X900H has an excellent contrast ratio and the local dimming improves the contrast as well. It produces deep blacks making it a great pick for dark room viewing such as a movie night. Furthermore, it has great SDR peak brightness more than enough to fight glare and you will not be facing any issue using the TV in a well-lit room.

The TV features a VA panel which is well known to have a narrow viewing angle, unlike IPS panel which offers the widest possible viewing angles. The TV doesn’t have Sony’s X-wide angle layer to improve the viewing angles so the image degrades as you move off-center. So it doesn’t do well in a large room with a wide seating arrangement or a movie night with your family.

Adding to that, the TV has an impressive response time which results in very little or no motion blur at all especially in fast-paced scenes. Due to the fast response time, there is a little bit of stutter while watching a low frame rate which is considerably more noticeable with 24fps content.

It has a remarkably low input lag, especially in the game mode. It is the lowest with 4K @ 120Hz. Input lag remains incredibly low while playing at 4K @ 60Hz which makes it perfect for competitive gaming.

Moving on to the connectivity, Sony X900H doesn’t disappoint at all and it has a plethora of useful ports. It comes with 4 HDMI, 2 USB ports, 1 digital optical audio output, 1 analog audio 3.5mm, a tuner, and Ethernet. Since it runs on the Sony Android TV platform you get to access ton of useful apps with a wide range of content on every genre. Last but not least, the audio quality is pretty decent but for the best experience, we’d suggest you invest in a decent soundbar to enjoy your HDR content to the full extent.

Concluding Remarks

The Sony X900H is a great TV for overall use. It offers great picture quality thanks to its incredible contrast ratio, high peak brightness and wide color gamut.  You get to enjoy HDR content while gamers can appreciate the low input lag and fast response time. The only downside of the TV is its narrow viewing angle but with little changes in your seating plan that can be handled well.

Pros
  • Well designed
  • Excellent contrast ratio
  • Fast response time
  • Low input lag performance
  • Great peak brightness
  • Life-like colors
  • Immersive viewing experience
Cons
  • Narrow viewing angles
  • VRR support not available

Conclusion

Although both the models are introduced by Sony, however, The Sony X900H is superior when it comes to performance. It has better color reproduction, greater peak brightness, better contrast ratio, incredible gaming performance, better motion due to X-motion clarity. For watching your favorite content as well as playing your favorite games, the Sony X900H is undoubtedly the better of the two.
