Dell and HP are two of the most popular computer brands all over the world. The number of computing products aside, Dell and HP have the biggest range of laptops. Especially Dell, who have also ventured into the gaming laptop market. Both these brands, due to their extraordinary innovation and manufacturing capabilities, offer laptops in every range.

Comparison and Buying Guide
[amazon table=”844″]When you only consider the specs, there is no clear winner of the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Vs. HP Spectre X360 comparison. You can see that HP offers a better processor chip, but Dell has the better GPU. Dell comes with Windows 10, whereas the HP Spectre still has Windows 8. On the other hand, HP offers a longer battery life than Dell.
In short, choosing one of these laptops just by looking at the hardware isn’t easy, and it’s not a very good idea as well. This is why we decided to review these two laptops and share our hands-on experience with you. So, instead of making a rushed decision now and regretting it later, give a read to our review to make a better and more informed decision.
Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Review
Dell started as an electronic manufacturer company way back in 1984. Now after years and years releasing great products, providing quality service to customers, and sometimes hitting rock-bottom, Dell has developed into a giant of the computer industry.
A few years back, Dell laptops were the best workhorses, being used only on factory floors and in company offices because they weren’t particularly good-looking devices, but the performance was great. So, people who wanted a device for home use would often avoid Dell laptops. Dell didn’t pay heed to this at first but learned their lesson later on.
Now, Dell maintains the same level of performance but has improved in the design department as well. Let’s see whether the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 maintains that streak of style and performance or not.

The design of the Dell Inspiron 13 is definitely a step up from the previous Inspiron models. The most welcome upgrade is the metal chassis from the plastic one in the earlier models. The metal build also brings durability. As this is a convertible laptop, a metal chassis can better handle the constant rotations of the body than a plastic one.
Overall, the laptop looks pretty good with the darkish gray and silver color, black keys, and black bezels around the touch screen. Although it would have been more beautiful if the bezels weren’t as thick as they are. Even the cheaper touchscreen models now have very thin bezels, so to see the thick bezels on a laptop of this range was a bit disappointing.
One change that is definitely worth mentioning is the change in the vent position. The exhaust vent of the Dell Inspiron 13 has moved to the backside. It’s doesn’t affect the operations or the performance of the exhaust fans, but it looks way better than the side vents.
Since you can use it as a tablet as well, Dell ensured to make the required tweaks to the laptop. On the right side, the laptop has a power button as well as a volume rocker, so you won’t have to engage the dock when using it as a tablet.
The size and weight of the laptop are very practical too. The 13.3 inches screen is large enough to provide a good view, but the laptop is still compact enough to fit a backpack. It only weighs 3.3 pounds, so carrying it along when you need to won’t be difficult.
Performance
You will be happy to read that the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 doesn’t compromise on the performance at all. With the Quad-Core AMD Ryzen 5 processor and 8GB of RAM, the laptop does a great job during light use as well as during the rush hour of multitasking. We tried a lot of different things to test out the prowess of Dell Inspiron 13, and we think at this price, the results couldn’t be better.
We won’t bore you with the test scores from different softwares; instead, we will tell you about our real-time experience. So, we ran Google Chrome opened over a dozen of tabs, including running a 1080p music video on YouTube, running Google Sheets in one tab, and using Reddit on another one.
It fared pretty well under all this pressure, but we did feel a bit of a lag when we started using the touch screen along with all these tasks. But we will say it again that in this price range, the performance was top-notch. The only disappointing performer is the battery, which only lasts a little over 7 hours.
When it comes to graphics, you should keep in mind that this is not a gaming laptop. It does have an AMD graphics card, but don’t let that mislead you. It fails to run the high-end games in the best way possible, and we would say that it’s the best for casual gaming only. The screen does have a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so picture quality is great; but the gaming experience, not so much.
Other Aspects
The features like keyboard and touchpad are decent as well. The touchpad, in particular, is very good. It’s a smooth design without a separate button design, which is completely outdated now. There is only a single small line that differentiates between the right click and the left click. It also supports all the typical gestures like zoom in/out, opening Cortana, navigating through pages with two fingers, and more.
The keyboard is pretty comfortable to use as well. The keys are soft and have adequate distance, which helps the typing. The key travel on the Dell Inspiron is 1.1mm. It’s not too high or too low; we think it’s just the right distance for the best user experience. There is no room for a Numpad, though.
The laptop does have a more than decent pair of speakers on the bottom side. They are loud and clear as well. The bass isn’t quite there for the best music listening experience, but the sound is loud and clear enough.

HP Spectre X360 Review
Hewlett Packard, or HP, is another well-reputed name of the computing industry. HP has been producing great laptops year after year, and the Spectre X360 is the latest in the long line of great laptops. We don’t know how HP managed it, but the Spectre X360 is the perfect combination of style and performance.
HP laptops always have been stylish and good-looking. We can’t remember an HP laptop that had didn’t look good just sitting there on our workstation. But, the same doesn’t go about the performance of HP laptops. HP has gone through a lot of trial and error and had to face a lot of criticism from consumers and critics alike.
Luckily for us, HP has now addressed the performance issues, which now gives us some great laptops. To give you an idea of the improvement, some of the latest HP Spectre 2-in-1 models are called the only real competitors of the Apple Macbooks.
The Spectre series started from this HP Spectre X360 (2015) model, so let’s see what this model has to offer.
[amazon box=”B00UCENG14″]Design
First off, it is a 2-in-1 laptop that works as a laptop and a tablet as well. The 13.3 inches large display screen folds back 360-degrees to turn into a touchscreen tablet. The hinges are strong and sturdy enough to hold other positions as well. You can use it in tent mode, screen mode, or just lay it flat on a table. It is one of the first so-called Yoga laptops, which you can use in any position you need.
The design and construction of this laptop is one of the best in every aspect. It feels like HP took the best design features from their competitors and made the Spectre X360. The aluminum chassis, the metal sides, and the matte finish on the lid and the bottom go perfectly together. They provide a sort of a premium feel that a high-performing laptop should have.
Even though the design feels inspired by the competitors, HP didn’t let go of some trademark designs. Just like the older laptops, HP goes with the same keyboard and dec color on the Spectre X360 as well. Instead of creating contrast, they opt to match instead, and it works a treat. The famous wider touchpad is there as well, which we don’t really like but it works.
Performance
When you use the Spectre X360 and get to experience the performance capabilities firsthand, you get to know why users love it so much. We have a hands-on experience as well, and that’s why we love it too. The fast and smooth user experience and great performance prowess come down to its CPU and RAM configuration.
The Spectre X360 has a Dual-Core Intel i7 processor and 8GB of RAM. When we compare it to the Dell Inspiron, the RAM is the same; but the processor on the HP Spectre is much better performing. The Specter’s processor has a higher frequency, and it supports boost frequency too. Running on Windows 8, the processor generates lightning-fast performance and smooth multitasking.
The Spectre X360 lacks in the graphics department, which is a real shame. Because it has the right type of screen to produce a high-definition picture, vivid colors, and a great visual experience overall. If HP had attached a powerful enough GPU, the Sceptre would have been great for gaming too. The HD display is bright and produces good colors and picture quality, which is great for movie watching.
The highlight of the Spectre X360, along with the CPU performance, is the long-lasting battery. The laptop runs for over 10 hours with a single charge, which is much more than any of the competitors. So, if battery life is one of the primary needs for you, you wouldn’t find a better laptop than this one.
Other Aspects
As an entertainment unit, the Spectre is the complete package. The laptop has two high-quality speakers that produce HD sound and loud volumes. The 1080p screen and the HD speakers provide a great movie watching and music listening experience anywhere.
We already mentioned the design of the keyboard and the touchpad, but we would also like to talk about the use. The keyboard is very comfortable to use and perfect for fast and error-free typing. The keys are big and soft, and there is enough space between them to prevent accidental pressings. The keyboard also has dedicated keys to control volume, brightness, and other similar function.
The touchpad is a hit as well. The superwide design will look a bit weird at first, but once you get used to it, you will love it. It’s smooth, and it supports all the Windows 8 gestures too.
One thing that we kind of expected when we saw the hardware was the heating up problem. The laptop doesn’t get dangerously hot and is still useable, but the heat becomes noticeable. Especially the bottom gets quite hot, and you can’t keep the laptop in your lap. However, it only heats up during prolonged use, under a heavy workload.

Conclusion
As we said at the start of the article, choosing one winner between the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 Vs. HP Spectre X360 only based on hardware comparison is very difficult. But, after the complete review, you can see the clear winner. If you can’t, we certainly do. Our pick out of these two is the HP Spectre X360 which offers a more powerful CPU, stronger build, and much longer battery life. You might prefer the Dell Inspiron, but we strongly suggest the Spectre X360.
